Tell me about yourself and how you came to be a puzzler?
I’m Sara and I’m from WA. I work as a dog groomer and I run a puzzle club in Kalamunda. I’ve puzzled for as long as I can remember. It’s always been a special thing that I’ve enjoyed.
How did you get involved with the AJPA?
I went to the first WA competition where I met the AJPA’s president, D’Arne and started getting involved straight away. AJPA then put out a request to join the committee and I put my hand up. I feel that I’ve found my people!
What do you enjoy most about the puzzle community?
I love meeting so many people. Everyone is so nice and friendly.
Has anything surprised you about being involved with the AJPA?
The opportunities that it’s given me. I’ve worked on the committee in a variety of roles that I didn’t think I’d be capable of. I’ve grown a lot.
Do you have a favourite brand, type, or style of puzzle?
No, I love all puzzles. I don’t buy puzzles – I get what I’m given and I will do any puzzle.
How often do you get to puzzle?
In the lead up to a competition, I try to puzzle every day. That’s my goal but sometimes it doesn’t work out like that!
What do you do when you’re not volunteering for AJPA?
I have a family, a business and a puzzle club. Plus trying to puzzle as much as I can. There’s not much spare time!
What’s your best advice for someone who wants to improve their speed puzzling abilities?
Practice, practice, practice! All brands, all styles.
How can people connect with you on social media or other?
I run a social puzzle group in Kalamunda, WA. We meet monthly to socialise and puzzle together. The group is called JAKS – Jigsaws Anonymous Kalamunda Shhhh and you can find us on Facebook!
