EVENT INFO

Attending state and national competitions

Here’s some information to help make your day at our events a success.

Registration and arrival times

Registration opens one hour before each competition. Try to arrive with plenty of time to spare and check in at least 20 minutes before your event. You must be seated at least 10 minutes before the competition start time. If you can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible.

What’s available on the day?

We have a puzzle swap, raffle and merchandise, and basic refreshments available on site. We have spot prizes including for best dressed so we encourage everyone to dress up.

There is usually a pop-up shop to buy puzzles. This will be confirmed in the lead-up to the event. We will also let you know whether refreshments are available in the venue or locally. If you’re competing in multiple events, you might consider bringing a packed lunch to save time.

What to bring

You’re welcome to bring any gear such as puzzle sorters, cardboard sheets, energy snacks, headphones – just make sure it doesn’t intrude on other puzzlers. Bring your AJPA membership card for a discount on merchandise, cash for refreshments and your unwanted puzzles for the puzzle swap.

Some hints for a smoother day

Choose your table: Competitors have half a standard trestle table to assemble their puzzle on. You can choose where to sit, but please be considerate of others puzzling next to you. If you have accessibility needs, contact us before the event.

Noise: There is some noise during the event so consider bringing noise cancelling headphones or listening to music if you are easily distracted. If you have sensory requirements, contact us before the event.

Keep your pair in the know: If you have a puzzle partner for pairs, please make sure they also know where to go.

When finished, leave quietly: We all puzzle at different speeds – while we encourage cheering, please pack up and move out of the puzzle area promptly after completing your puzzle.

Rules and rankings: This is an official Jigsaw Puzzle Competition as per World Jigsaw Puzzle Federation regulations. All state residents will receive an official time and ranking. Please refer to the official list of competition rules.

Photos: We do take photos during the event which are published on our website and social media channels. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.

Spectators: Spectators are very welcome and can attend for free!

Be kind: Remember that everyone involved in this event is a volunteer, so please be kind, courteous and patient.
